1990-2004

Chronological overview of RMF's Achievements in the Democracy and Human Rights Field over 15 years

1993

Organized an international symposium on the theme Towards a New Arab Renaissance.

1994 -1996

Created the Center for Research and Education on Democracy (CRED) that organized conferences, seminars, and workshops in different regions throughout Lebanon.

Launched, in 1995, the quarterly review Hurriyat, which target students and youth.

1997

Implemented the Mujeres project, a campaign for greater political participation of women, which included:
- A survey of 40 deputies and 400 people of different professions.
- Two seminars on the participation of women in political life in Lebanon.
- A publicity campaign that aired on the main TV and radio channels.
- Publications

Organized seminars and conferences throughout Lebanon on the importance of municipal elections and democratic mechanisms.

1998

Implemented, under the Bunion Project:
- 2 seminars in Lebanon and 2 seminars in Jordan on human rights for students and instructors.
- The creation of a manual for human rights education for Lebanon and Jordan.
- A competition among universities for the best poster on human rights.

2 conferences and 2 seminars on Liberalism: concept and perspectives.

Organized a seminar on the golden age of the Arab renaissance, Nahda.

1999

3 seminars on Liberalism: concept and perspectives.

4 conferences (Nabatieh, Zgharta, Akkar and Danniyeh) on the role and prerogatives of members of municipal counsels within their legislation.

1 week-long seminar on women's participation in political life, addressed to instructors, of which 7 were Jordanian and 5 were Egyptian.

Publication of a manual for trainers of human rights.

Created environmental clubs in 19 schools in Lebanon.

2000

2 seminars in Cairo and Amman for 40 teachers on women's political participation.

Publication of The Renaissance, Liberal Introductions for Modernity.

Publication of the Catalogue of Manuscripts of the Library of the Maronite Patriarchy by Mgr Francis Baissari.

Seminars on the question: Lebanon, is it a liberal state?

Implemented the Mujeres II project, Phase 1: Women's Participation in Political Life . The objective was the creation of advocacy groups to promote the participation of women in political life.

2001

Launched the Legislative Public Forum. Its objective was to discuss social legislation associated to public policies, women's rights, child abuse, and environmental concerns.

Organized several workshops on VAT and juvenile justice legislation, where draft laws were discussed.

Implemented the Mujeres II project, phase 2:
- 6 conferences and 3 workshops throughout Lebanon for the three target groups (professors and university students, journalists, and those in the liberal professions)
- Launching of a website
- Launching of an email campaign to encourage women's political participation.

Integrated gender issues into RMF activities. Organized the following as a result:
- Workshop in Medjlaya, North Lebanon to introduce the concept of gender.
- Workshop in Medjlaya, North Lebanon on Gender and Strategic Planning.

Helped Club des Etudiants (Student Club) to organize the following activities: movie club, rally paper; conferences; trips to vacation resorts.

2002

Series of seminars on Lebanese cooperatives in Tripoli, Tal Amara, Tyre, and Beirut. Objective: to assess the needs of Lebanese cooperatives in order to optimize their efficiency.

Organized a regional workshop on children's rights with participants from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Syria.

2003

Organized training workshops on women, gender, and development on the following topics:
- Development of a long-term plan to integrate the concept of gender and women's participation in development projects.
- Training and capacity building needs for local community based organizations.

Implemented the following to raise awareness on human rights among youth: - 18 human rights clubs in Lebanese schools in North Lebanon and Beirut led by young volunteers, working in close collaboration with the RMF, that performed 240 activities.
- A facilitator's manual for the club activities on human rights, children's rights, CEDAW, and the environement.
- Publication in Arabic of the simplified Convention on the Rights of the Child, Houkoukouna, for 14-18 year-olds.

Organized a regional workshop for raising awareness on children's rights. Youth from 4 countries participated in 7 different workshops and visited 3 NGOs that work with youth on issues of drug addiction, juvenile delinquency, and the ill or disabled.

Organized a regional workshop on the ethical and spiritual values found in children's education. It took place in Amman, Jordan and included government representatives; members of religious, political, economic, and educational organizations; NGOs; and children from Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine .

Organized a training workshop on the methods of rapid participatory evaluation in order to help NGOs gather data on the situation of women, their needs, and their role in society.

Organized a day of commemoration of the political achievements of the former President of the Lebanese Republic, René Moawad, at the Saint-Joseph University that included:
- a conference followed by a debate including contributions from Mrs. Nayla Moawad, President Hussein el Husseini, and Rafic Khoury, Chief Editor of the daily Al Anouar.
- a photograph exhibit
- a distribution of a book: 18 Days of the Life of Lebanon under the Presidency of René Moawad by Tanous G. Moawad.
- a DVD entitled The President and the Martyr of the Taif created by New TV.

2004

Continued the 18 human rights clubs' activities in schools.

Organized 6 seminars and workshops to increase the participation of youth in civil society and educate them on issues of political participation, human rights, citizenship, democracy, and the electoral process for 24 participants.
