Brief description
The project is designed to facilitate the establishment of a high-value fruit, vegetables and flowers hydroponics sector in Lebanon with the long-term goal of improving lives and livelihoods of rural Lebanese producers through increased revenue.
DHAIM uses ACDI/VOCA’s value chain approach to enhance Lebanon’s greenhouse sector (mainly lettuce, capsicum, strawberry, tomato, cucumber, and floriculture) through three program components:
1) Access to Markets and Market Intelligence;
2) Improved Protected Agriculture Production and Post-harvest Handling;
3) Organizational Strengthening of Value Chain Actors.
Beneficiaries
The program targets approximately 4,000 beneficiaries covering all value chain actors through increasing access to markets, and approximately 1000 greenhouse owners representing over one third of the greenhouse producers of these crops in Lebanon. (It is expected to increase related exports by at least 50 percent.)
Objectives
to strengthen value chain linkages
to increase access to credit
to train and have technical assistance for smallholder greenhouse producers
to improve post-harvest handling
to enhance business support services
to improve capacity of value chain actors
