Areas of intervention

The project involves the Akkar and Hermel regions. It involves serving 10 schools in the 2 regions and building a Community Cultural Center in Hermel.
The 5 schools served in Akkar are: Mar Doumit School (Kobayat), Saint Coeurs (Andket), Saint Simon School (Beit Mellat), Notre Dame de la Delivrande School (Sheikh Mohammad) and Saint Joseph School (Miniara).

 

Description
The project intends to respond to the following 4 identified needs:
The school drop out phenomenon due to economical conditions of the families
Psychological post- conflict traumas in the students
Lack of exchange and dialog between the two communities
Lack of a cultural space of dialogue and exchange in the remote area of Hermel

Beneficiaries

 About 2,100 person (Children, youths and their families) from the Hermel region participated in the activities of the library at the Community Cultural Centre.
221 teachers from the two regions received training on psychological skills, interactive methods to relate to the children, new didactic methodologies.
200 youth took part in summer camps and environmental activities
220 youth and children received school kits (including inscription fees, uniforms, books, stationary…)
700 youth took part in theremedial classes
800 youth and children took part in cultural activities (theatre workshop or assisting to a theatre play)
100 children participated in the exchange between the two regions.
10 schools received didactic materials and small equipments.

Objectives
General Objective
Improve youth’s and children’s life conditions in the communities of activities and of their families through the promotion of cultural and educational activities.

Specific Objective
Provide solutions to the lack of cultural spaces and create dialogue scopes --places of interaction for children and youth, and reduce the risks of failing or dropping from school for those growing in underprivileged conditions.

Cultural activities


On-going Activities In the 5 schools in Akkar
Letters exchanged between children
5 workshops for teachers
Supplementary classes in 3 schools for a period of 3 months
120 school kits at the start of the school year for students coming from the most underprivileged sectors.
Environmental activities that will involve 100 children
Cultural and artistic activities that involved 730 children.
Exchange of letters between 100 children (50 from Hermel and 50 from Qobayat). These children will meet in February and spend a day in their correspondent’s house.
