Beneficiaries
Students from the following five public schools located in the Akkar region:
- The Martyr Rafic Hariri Secondary School-Bibnine
- The Tal El-Zira'a Public School
- The Bourj Al Arab Mixed Public School
- The Al Qubayat Al Zouk Mixed Public School
- The Mazraat Al Baldeh Mixed Public School
Community stakeholders, such as people from municipalities, mass-media, religious men, human rights activists. Parents and student siblings participating in the club activities and organized events
Objectives
Ensure the implementation of Child’s Rights Convention especially right to education and right to play.
Enhance student growth outside the classroom by systemizing extracurricular programs.
Create a collaborative school committee to guarantee the sustainability of the program.
Involve the surrounding community in extracurricular activities that facilitates the communication between all society's levels.
Activities
Conduct a brief assessment for the chosen schools.
Conduct training workshops: sessions on Capacity Building.
Supply club animators by the needed logistics and information that enable them to manage school club.
Create one club per school upon the school's request and needs
(The created clubs in the five schools were as follow:
- A Sports club at the Martyr Rafic Hariri Secondary School-Bibnine
- A
Music club at the Al Qubayat Al Zouk Mixed Public School
- A
Sports club at the Mazraat Al Baldeh Mixed Public School
- A Music club at the Bourj Al Arab Mixed Public School
- An Environmental club at the Tal El-Zira'a Public School).
Equip the school clubs with relevant equipments.
Establish school committees comprising school principal, supervisor, club animator and parents from parents' council in order to participate in all school activities so that we guarantee the sustainability of the program.
Organize interschool activities such as events, plays, competitions, trips to cultural and historical sites, and attend educational plays.
Prepare a Child To Child Manual about school clubs, that touches the following topics: Importance of playing, extracurricular activities and school clubs, communication skills, group work, time management, conflict management, positive discipline, etc. The manual will be presented to the Ministry of Education for its adoption in all public schools.
Expected results
4 key people to participate in the meetings conducted in each targeted school (total 20 people).
1 NAQ conducted per school.
4 persons to benefit from each school per training.
1 school committee per school formed, comprising at least 4 members.
3 activities per school organized.
200 students to benefit from the extracurricular activities (direct).
70% of the school club animators to use positive discipline skills through using Save the Children Manuals concerning this issue.
