Market, Souk El Tayeb -
Celebration of Lebanon's National Unity Day
Theme:
United Farmers of Lebanon (mouzaryiin koulounna lel watann)
Place:
Martyr's Square, Beirut.
Summary:

To celebrate the 13th of April, Lebanon's National Unity Day, the day when the Lebanese war began in 1975, Souk El Tayeb, the first farmers' market in Lebanon, was held as 'United Farmers of Lebanon - mouzaryiin koulounna lel watann'.

Souk el Tayeb is a gathering of passionate farmers and food producers from all over Lebanon. On this national occasion all participants in the event and all visitors felt united by the care, love and responsibility that all have towards Mother Earth and the land of Lebanon...

RMF participated in the event by setting up a large stand on which apples, wrapped in the 3 colors forming the Lebanese flag (White, Red and Green), were offered lovingly to all visitors.

In the heart of the 'souk', a huge 10-meter map of Lebanon ('kharitat el tayeb') was drawn with traditional products and dishes of the regions instead of city names. For example, there was no Tripoli, but samkeh harra; no Saida, but senioura; no Zghorta, but kebbeh, etc.

The market hosted more than 25 stalls and 40 producers.
