Dinner Debate |
Theme: |
In Defense of Capitalism |
Place: |
Le Meridien Commodore Hotel, Hamra |
Summary: |
The dinner debate was hosted by the RMF in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The speaker, Mr. Johan Norberg, Swedish writer of the award-winning book 'In Defense of Global Capitalism', refuted popular criticisms of globalization. Former anarchist turned liberal, he believes that global capitalism results in the sharing of new technologies and ideas between more developed and less developed countries that equalizes disparities between them and lifts people out of poverty. His ideas incited several questions from among the audience of economists, lawyers, journalists, and foreign members of parliament that raised doubts on the benefits of global capitalism. The questions and answers went back and forth throughout the whole evening. |
