RMF invited Mr. Tommaso Piccardi, an Italian expert in olive processing technologies, to visit Lebanon from 12th to 19th February.

During his stay, Mr. Picardi visited the olive mills of the processing cooperatives and conducted conferences on the 'Introduction of new technologies for oil production and processing'.

Eight conferences were held by Mr. Piccardi during his visit, in the following regions: Kfifan (Batroun), Kobayat (North), Baaklin (Chouf), Cana (South), Nabatiyeh (South), Zgharta (North), Safad el Battikh and Deir Mimass.

Around 100 participants attended the conferences. The beneficiaries were mainly olive growers, owners of olive mills, coop members and individual farmers. They benefited from the information provided by the expert in terms of olive processing equipments, olive oil extraction methods, processing parameters, olive oil bottling and storage… . Moreover, they had the opportunity to show their mills to the expert, expose the problems faced during olive processing and be advised on the adequate processing methods that should be adopted for the improvement of olive oil quality.

At the end of his visit Mr. Piccardi submitted a technical report that described the conditions of the mills that he visited and proposed a list of recommendations to improve the conditions of the mills and produce better quality olive oil.
