For the first time, a gala dinner was held in Miami to support the René Moawad Foundation's activities. Around 320 participants, from American, Lebanese and/or Arab origin, attended the event which was held in the prestigious JW Marriott ballroom.
The gala was organized by the René Moawad Foundation-USA and its newly elected president, Mr. Abdo Sabban. Mrs Nayla Moawad, Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, and honorary president of RMF-USA, gave the keynote address and welcomed the participants. Mr. Vincent Battle, former US Ambassador to Lebanon and member of the RMF board, was mastering the ceremony with the same elegance he showed at the former gala held in Washington in November 2005. The participants honored Mr. Anthony Abraham, a distinguished figure of Miami society, who met nearly all the American presidents since Truman, and is very well-known for his commitment to the children who are hungry, sick or orphaned. Mr. Abraham, received the "Distinguished Philanthropist Award" for his great generosity As for the Washington gala, a fashion defile closed the event. For the occasion, the Lebanese designer Abed Mahfouz presented his new creations. He was granted the "Artistic Excellence Award".
