April-June 2008
Psychological and Psychosocial support activities (ACCESS)
Summary:

These psychological support activities were part of the ACCESS-MENA project. The beneficiaries of the activities were children, parents and some of team members in the project.

These activities came as a continuation of similar activities conducted during the period of January-March 2008.

The main activities for the period of April-June included the following: continuing the building of trust, integrating further the different team members, debriefing team members, one on one counseling with students and mothers, group activities within the centers.

In addition to that, many interventions took place including:
One on one counseling with the children in need,
Discussion groups with parents,
Sessions on communicating and listening,
Sessions on de-pathologizing behavior (i.e. not every time a kid shouts or refuses makes him “sick” or in need of “therapy”),
Coordination with the social worker to organize games that focus on the problem we need to treat and to assign roles for some of the children regarding to their situation in order to help them adjust some behaviors or to improve some skills

Monthly meetings with all the teams of social workers and recreational activities in the ACCESS regions were also held: the psychologists gave them advice and tried to help them improve their work with the ACCESS children by evaluating their way of work, the vocabulary they use in their sessions and understanding the problems they encounter. In addition to giving them information needed on how to deal with children suffering from psychological problems.
