The project, part of the ROSS Program of the Italian Cooperation, had been inaugurated on the 24th August 2007, and was concluded during this event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hamra on Wednesday April 30, 2008.

Present were Mr. Nabil Moawad, Director of the Rural Development Department at the RMF, Mrs. Nada Beaino, Representative of the Italian Cooperation, Mr. Carlos Nakad, the Director of the project and Mr. Fady Fayyad, agro-food Expert.

The project funded by the Italian Embassy in Beirut, was implemented by the RMF and the Italian cooperation/ ROSS program with the collaboration of the “Union of Agricultural Cooperatives in Deir El Ahmar and neighboring villages” and the “Union of Production and Artisanal cooperatives in the Bekaa and neighboring villages”.

The project aimed at improving quality of production and marketing of agricultural cooperatives in agro-food sector in the Bekaa Valley, through strengthening the union of cooperatives and providing technical assistance, quality control systems and necessary equipments for a better and more competitive access of the production to local and international markets.

It allowed the creation of a laboratory for agro-food products, a showroom and a refrigeration car. Training sessions were also organized to help agricultural cooperatives improve their production quality.

The closing ceremony witnessed the launching of two manuals entitled “Quality Assurance” and “Labeling”. The two manuals were created in order to provide instructions to beneficiaries on procedures to follow.

The event ended with a cocktail attended by representatives from many agricultural cooperatives, NGOs, universities and research centers.
