January-March 2008
Awareness sessions on 'Benefits of Education for Working Children', with Community and Religious Leaders (ACCESS)
Summary:

The sessions were part of the ACCESS-MENA project.

The sessions’ main objectives were to introduce the project and basic knowledge on children’s rights and CRC (Convention of Rights of Children).

About 60 community and religious leaders in Beirut, Tripoli, Akkar, and Saida benefited from these sessions.

The sessions were delivered with a goal of gaining the support of influential individuals in vulnerable communities. Some of the meetings were done on individual and personal basis with each leader (for example in Saida) and others were done in meetings with a group of community leaders (in Beirut, Tripoli and Akkar). These meetings were attended by more than 60 community leaders; the same groups were also invited for a follow up meeting to further plan for the period of April-July 2008.

The main topics discussed were the achievements of the ACCESS MENA project and the sustainability of its activities after the project ends in a few months. Community leaders were very keen on being involved in all activities of the project and also supported the team in the execution of many of its activities including raising awareness for employers, parents and children.
