For the 6th consecutive year, Lebanese extra virgin olive oil production took center-stage in a series of tasting and explanatory sessions, with trophies being awarded to the best local producers, and best labels. This event was held at BIEL in Beirut, in conjunction with HORECA 2011, one of the largest exhibitions gathering professionals from the hospitality industry throughout the Middle East.
Part of the judging panel of the 6th edition of the National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest was agriculture engineer and olive oil expert Roland Andary, head of the Olive Oil department in RMF.
After rounds of tasting and selection held over the 4 days of the event by the judging panel, which consisted of specialists from Lebanon, Italy, Cyprus and Jordan, and voting by the press and by the chefs, the winners of The National Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contest and the best label and bottle contest were selected and received their awards on the last day of the event in the presence of Mr. Hussain Haj Hassan, Minister of Agriculture.
