This project aims at supporting the vulnerable host communities and the Syrian refugees on the infrastructural level in Akkar and T5 (North Lebanon).  This includes solid waste, waste water and storm water management as well as access to potable water projects in coordination with the local authorities (including MoEW, NLWE, OMSAR and local municipalities).

Project Objectives

Access to potable water

  • Provide 1 local community with safe access to potable water
  • Establish WASH local committees including representatives of the local community Syrian refugees and local authorities
  • Build the capacity of local committee representatives from the community

Stormwater management

  • Upgrade 3 stormwater drainage systems
  • Establish WASH local committees including representatives of the local community Syrian refugees and local authorities
  • Build the capacity of local committee representatives from the
  • Conduct 3 water management awareness sessions to the community

Wastewater management

  • Rehabilitate 7 septic tanks

Solid waste management

  • Execute a medium scale solid waste management project which benefits 30 communities which includes waste collection routing scheme as well as establishing a transfer station
  • Conduct 15 awareness sessions on sorting recyclables
  • Roll out the Environment Managing & Monitoring Plan
  • Conduct an environmental management plan prior to establishing the transfer station
  • Roll out a solid waste strategy including ToT for environment ambassadors/champions
